Ayurveda How It Works
According to Ayurveda, your constitution type is determined at the moment of your conception. This constitution, or your 'base' constitution, is called your Prakruti. The term Prakruti is a sanskrit word that means 'nature', 'creativity' or 'the first creation'. An important principle in Ayurveda is that your Prakruti remains fixed throughout your life; your base constitution is always fixed.
Your 'current' condition is termed your Vikruti, this describes the current balance of the three doshas and reflects the constant interaction with the environment that you experience every day. Your Vikruti is constantly changing but it should match your Prakruti as closely as possible. If the current proportion of your Doshas (Vikruti) is significantly different to your base constitution (Prakruti) then this indicates imbalances that can, in turn, lead to illness. The farther removed your Vikruti is from your Prakruti, the more ill you are. Ayurveda teaches that your Vikruti can be changed by a combination of diet, practices and techniques. This advice will help your Vikruti become closer to your Prakruti, which leads to a healthier self.
